Angul: A brief exchange of fire between the police and Maoists was reported from a forest near Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district late Monday night.
According to sources, Maoists of Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh (SDS) Division have become more active in the Satkosia sanctuary following the encounter of its key members.
Acting on a tip-off, SOG jawans and police personnel conducted a sudden raid. Sensing the movement of the raid team, the Maoists opened fire and tried to escape from the forest.
Retaliating back, the SOG jawans opened fire at the Maoists. No causalities have been reported.
