Aligarh: Leader of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, Pooja Shakun who had enacted the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi just prior to the latter’s death anniversary, October 2, was arrested here Tuesday night. Shakun had gone missing after allegedly committing the ‘horrendous’ act. Police informed they had been on the lookout for her for the last few days. They also said that Pooja’s husband, Ashok Pandey had also been taken into custody.
The UP police have registered criminal cases against 12 people after the video of the shocking incident went viral. Last week, the police had arrested three others who appeared in the enactment of the assassination.
Earlier, the right wing Hindu Mahasabha had said they consider the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as Shaurya Divas (Bravery Day), in honour of Nathuram Godse. While enacting the assassination, Pooja had also garlanded a picture of Godse. Once the video went viral it had created national outrage.
This is not the first time the Hindu Mahasabha has tried to glorify Godse. In 2015, the group’s leader, Swami Pranavananda had announced plans to install statues of Godse across six districts of Karnataka.
