Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar-Kataka commissionerate of police has barred personnel deployed at vital installations, including the state secretariat, Lingaraj temple and Orissa High Court, from sharing photographs and videos on social media while on duty, officials said.
In an order, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said it had been observed that some personnel were sharing videos related to their duties, deployments and workplaces on social media and other public platforms.
In some cases, such videos inadvertently reveal confidential information and sensitive locations of vital installations, Singh said.
“Such lapses and negligence may lead to a breach of security and expose sensitive information to the public domain, thereby increasing security challenges in the future,” he said.
The order prohibits personnel deployed at Lok Bhawan (Governor’s Secretariat), Lok Seva Bhawan (state secretariat), Lingaraj temple, Odisha Assembly, Orissa High Court, Reserve Bank of India, armouries and other sensitive installations from taking photographs or recording videos on any electronic device without prior permission from the competent authority.
In-charges of all important installations have been directed to strictly monitor and prevent such practices.
“Sentries deployed on duty are strictly prohibited from using mobile phones while on duty,” the order said.
Any violation of these instructions shall be viewed seriously and dealt with as per rules, he warned.
