Berhampur: A court here Tuesday granted bail to a couple accused of duping many investors of several thousand rupees as police failed to file charge-sheet within 60-days of their arrest.
The accused were identified as Brajamohan Patnaik and his wife Tridhara Mohanty, both directors of a tainted chit fund firm and finance company Datum.
Judge Deepti Ranjan Kanungo of special chit-fund court granted bail as the investigating officer failed to file the charge-sheet within the stipulated 60-days of their arrest .
The couple allegedly defrauded people of over Rs 50 crore by promising attractive returns for investment in their firms. Duped investors lodged complaints with Golanthara police.
Golanthara police registered a case and arrested Brajamohan, the managing director of the firm and his wife Tridhara, one of the directors from Bhubaneswar, November 6, 2018.
Advocate Nihar Patnaik pleaded the matter on behalf of the defendants.
