Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: Renowned Oriya singers as well as child artistes Monday entertained the audience at Soochana Bhawan with their lively performances at a musical event titled Pranab Pranam organised as part of Oriya Mahotsava by Sambhavana Trust.
The event was organised as a form of tribute to legendary singer Pranab Patnaik on the eve of his birthday.
Many music lovers flocked to the venue to relish the concert and get a glimpse of their favourite singers whose songs they often listen to on television and radio.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, renowned film director Sabyasachi Mohapatra and former chief secretary Sudhanshu Bushan among others.
Several melodious Oriya songs were performed, lending a retro mood to the event. The audience for its part was highly appreciative of the performances, applauding heartily after each song finished.
In order to commemorate Pranab for his contribution to the Oriya music industry, an award which was instituted in his memory called ‘Pranab Parampara Samman’ was given away this year to singer Arti Mishra.
“We have been organising Oriya Mahotsava for the last 10 years. The celebrations usually begin January 14 every year. Pranab Pranam is the first event after January 14. We have an amazing team of singers to perform on this occasion. We are hopeful that the audience will love to hear their favourite songs and singers live on the stage,” Smriti Mohanty, trustee of the Sambhavana Trust told reporters before the event.
The event also witnessed performances by other well known figures. Besides Pranab Patnaik, Saurabh Nayak, Gautam Giri, Pramod Behera, Sweta Mishra, Chhanda Mishra and Adyasha Das too performed.
