Bhubaneswar: Comparing the SUM Hospital incident with Uphaar tragedy in Delhi, the Congress Tuesday sought that hospital premises should be sealed till the probe is completed to preserve crucial evidence related to the horrific blaze.
“The RDC probe will not be fruitful. We demand a judicial probe. First, the government should preserve the place for material evidence like Uphaar cinema hall was preserved for material evidence for a period of 11 years. Otherwise, the evidence and proof of the mishap will be tampered with,” said Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan.
“Our government didn’t learn anything from the AMRI Hospital (Kolkata) fire accident in 2011 in which around 90 people were killed. Besides the hospital authorities, I will say the state government is also responsible for the incident,” he pointed out.
Harichandan also raised questions about how a no objection certificate was given to the hospital in absence of adequate fire fighting equipment. “This is complete negligence by the government,” he said while claiming that the hospital had not complied with fire safety norms since 2013 and even then it was allowed to function for the last three years.
