President Kovind, PM Modi, CM Patnaik extend greetings on Utkal Divas

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of Utkal Divas, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Governor Ganeshi Lal extended their greetings to the state, Thursday.

 

 

 

After a long struggle of over three centuries, Odisha eventually became a separate province April 1, 1936. Still under British rule, Odisha was separated from Bengal and Bihar and was declared as a separate province, giving it a special political identity. Sir John Austen Hubback was its first Governor.

After Independence, Kailash Nath Katju was the first Governor of Odisha. The state’s name from Orissa to Odisha was changed March 24, 2011.
