Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack managed to flee Thursday in the attire of a woman, a said source Friday.
The prisoner has been identified as Sajan Das, who hails from Jagatsinghpur district.
According to the source, Sajan was apprehended by Naugaon police while attempting to rob a residence in Niali area. After his bail request was denied, he was sent to judicial custody. He was originally kept in Alipingal and was subsequently transferred to Choudwar jail.
The source further said that Sajan was brought to the SCBMCH May 29 as he became unwell. He has been receiving treatment since then.
The source said that Sajan went to the toilet Thursday on pretext of relieving himself. He changed his clothes and escaped from the restroom wearing a saree.
Police have started a manhunt to nab the prisoner.
