Nayagarh: A three-member Special Task Force (STF) team arrived at Itamati village in Nayagarh district to investigate an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit here that occurred September 23, claiming the lives of nine persons with several others critically injured.
The task force team interrogated several villagers and visited the site of the blast as part of their investigation.
Though the investigation was launched by the Nayagarh SDPO, the investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch after the death of nine persons. Crime Branch STF SP Satyajit Nayak, DSP Ramesh Chandra Khampa, inspector Irfan Kiran, Nayagarh SDPO Jayram Satpathy, and Itamati IIC Saroj Kumar Satpathy arrived at the spot and interrogated the villagers regarding the mishap.
A massive explosion tore through the licensed firecracker manufacturing unit at Tantisahi, killing one person on the spot and critically injuring 13 others. Eight others subsequently succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
The owner of the unit Dhaneswar Sahu was produced in court. Meanwhile, nine firecracker manufacturing units and godowns were seized in Iamati area.
Parala suicides: CB notice on MLA
Cuttack: The Crime Branch has served notices on Parlakhemundi MLA K Surya Rao and eight others in connection with the suicide of Paralakhemundi king’s former manager Anangamanjari Patra and her siblings. Sources said the CB will interrogate Rao and others in connection with the suicides. The interrogation of Rao and other eight persons will start October 3. Patra had in a suicide note accused a private news channel, Rao and some leaders of BJD and BJP of running a smear campaign against her family. PNN
