Cuttack: Fire brigade officials Wednesday began a probe into the fire that broke out here Tuesday at the transmission room of a private radio station functioning on the old Doordarshan campus at Tulasipur.
Equipment, including an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) unit, inverters and some furniture at the transmission room of 104 FM radio were gutted, according to sources.
Transmission of three private FM radios and two FM radios of All India Radio (AIR) was disrupted because of the blaze, sources said.
The fire brigade officials, led by city head Chandramohan Routray, examined the gutted equipment of 104 FM radio.
The team also collected information on the circumstances under which the fire broke out at the transmission unit of the private FM radio station. “Authorities of FM radio stations have been asked to take precaution to avoid fire mishaps in future,” Routray said.
Services of the private FM radio stations, including 93.5 Red FM and 92.7 Big FM, have returned to normal. “Transmission was disrupted soon after the mishap. However, it resumed late Tuesday night,” said Soubhagya Behera, head of 92.7 Big FM’s Bhubaneswar unit.
Officials of 93.5 Red FM also said that transmission had resumed. “Radio transmission was temporarily disrupted because of the fire,” said the private radio channel’s Bhubaneswar unit chief, Manas Patnaik.
