Rourkela: The students of the Lone government nursing college of the district at Sundargarh were on the road. The students were left with no other options than to resort to demonstration as their just demands were neglected continuously. They handed over a memorandum to the CDMO Sundargarh Friday, their authority at this moment. CDMO Sundargarh Saroj Kumar Mishra said, “All their demands are being taken care of with immediate effect and will be resolved in a day or two. And some decisions have to be taken by the government for which we have already communicated and are hopeful for an early solution.” Leaving their hostel rooms, the girl students were on the road demanding proper water supply to their hostel. “For the last four days, we don’t have water in the hostel and no one is listening to us,” they said. “As a result, we were left with no option than to demonstrate and come to the street,” said a hostel inmate without naming herself.
Most of the girls were explaining their problems in the hostel. “We complained to the hostel authorities and there was no result,” said a girl. Mishra informed that the faulty pump at the hostel has been replaced thus restoring water supply to the hostel. The students had a long list of problems in the memorandum including maintenance hygiene, lack of furniture in the hostel and college, non-disbursal of identity cards and uniforms to the first-year students, unnecessary workload on the students, permanent cook in the hostel, regular changes in the scholarship amount, collection of Rs 150 towards snacks from the students, etc. Mishra said, “We have requested the government to post a permanent principal and not someone who is just in charge as this is causing lots of problems. Besides, we have also requested the government to hand over the college to the Government Medical College so that it can be managed properly
