Bhawanipatna: A gang of fraudsters were trying to cheat villagers in Kalahandi district promising them e-cards at a nominal price of Rs 30. They claimed that the cards would help the buyers to avail 40 benefits under several government schemes and services like ration card, housing schemes, Kalia Yojana, voter ID card and Ayushman Yojana.
Tuesday, when the group was trying to cheat the villagers of Budhidar in Junagad block, Sarpanch Mukhyaram Majhi and the Antodya Officer of the village asked for their identity proofs. Fearing that they might be caught, the group left the place immediately.
Sources said the group was appointed by an organisation named Jatiya Manab Adhikar Citizen Commission of Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar.
When National Human Rights Commission officer Dillip Kumar Dash asked them about their organisation, they could not give a proper answer. Dillip also tried to contact the organisation, but no information was given to him.
Police investigated the matter. After checking the website of the organisation it was found that it is operating one National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Human Rights Commission, and that it was set up as per the Human Rights Commission Act of 1993.
The data given on the website clearly indicates that it is a fraudulent organisation. As per the Human Rights Commission Act of 1993 all commissions in the country are set up only by the government. No private entity has the right to float an organisation using the name of the Human Rights Commission Act of 1993.
