Bhubaneswar, April 29: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided, at its council meeting Wednesday, to slap a third show-cause notice on Ramky Enviro for the poor sanitation standards in 15 wards.
Municipal commissioner Krishan Kumar would slap the notice in a day or two on Ramky, which had been roped in by the civic body for sanitation services in 15 wards. The private firm would have 15 days to improve sanitation in the wards.
If the situation does not improve, Kumar would forward the case to the BMC contracts standing committee to take a final call on the matter. This may result in the termination of the contract.
BMC would thus have to incur additional expenditure for solid waste management in the 15 wards.
“A notice would soon be served on the firm asking why action should not be taken against it for failing to maintain cleanliness,” Kumar said.
Besides, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has delegated its powers to deal with applications of building plan approvals, lay out plans and enforcement wing to BMC, empowering it with legal powers to turn the heat on land sharks.
The corporation also decided to make builders liable to leave at least 50 per cent of space for public amenities such as parks, community centres, roads and drains, failing to which the building plans would not be approved by BMC.
The civic body has also decided to crack the whip on land sharks encroaching upon drains according to section 407 of Orissa Municipal Corporation (OMC) Act, 2003. “No encroachment would be tolerated on drains as it leads to choking whenever it rains,” Mayor AN Jena said.
The civic body Wednesday agreed to sanction Rs 7.64 crore to the public health engineering organisation to install water standposts for every 25 households in slum clusters. However, slum dwellers would get uninterrupted potable water only from next year.
BMC has also hiked the monthly rent of working women’s hostel from Rs 300 per month for accommodation in a three-bedded room to Rs 500. For single bedroom, one now has to pay Rs 750 against the earlier Rs 500.
The per-day tariff of Jatri Niwas has also been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 500 (three-bedded room).
