Puri: A servitor of the Lord Jagannath temple here was arrested Sunday for allegedly molesting a woman inside the premises of 11th Century shrine.
The accused servitor, identified as Santosh Kar, was arrested on the basis of a complaint from the woman.
The woman, a resident of Berhampur, went inside the temple for darshan along with her family members. As per a complaint she filed with the police, the servitor touched her in an inappropriate manner. The incident occurred after the temple switched off all lights at the sanctum sanctorum, Jagamohan and Natamandap to perform the Alatalagi ritual.
Kar allegedly groped the woman standing with her mother near the Garuda Stambha (pillar) in the shrine premises.
The girl caught hold of the servitor’s hand and raised an alarm.
“Santosh Kar, the servitor, has been arrested for trying to touch the girl inappropriately,” said Singhadwara police station Inspector-In-charge Gokula Ranjan Das. Kar has been produced in a local court, he added.
