Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: Rajya Sabha MP and Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) chief Pyarimohan Mohapatra Sunday said the bank lockers of his wife and daughter were examined by the CBI Saturday, in connection with the multi-crore ponzi scam.
Mohapatra said CBI officials examined the bank lockers at a bank in Saheed Nagar area. He said he had handed over the keys of these lockers to the CBI when it conducted a search of his residence November 18, 2014. However, since no investigation was done on those lockers thereafter, he wrote to CBI SP Manish Kumar Sinha urging him to do their investigations at the earliest, so that his family could continue to operate them.
“I had willingly handed over the keys of the bank lockers of my wife and daughter to the CBI. I want to maintain a clean image. Hence, I urged the agency to expedite the investigations. This is the marriage season and my wife and daughter wanted to take out their ornaments from the lockers,” he said.
Saturday, CBI sleuths opened the lockers and made a list of the ornaments therein, and even noted the weight of the contents in the family’s presence. The agency handed over a copy of the list of valuable therein to the family and returned them the keys of the lockers, Mohapatra said.
He said the lockers had nothing other than a few sets of ornaments.
“Regarding my property, I have declared my assets to the Election Commission (EC) while filing nominations in 2004 and 2009. This is on their website, meaning, it is in the public domain. CBI has also taken copies of the same during the search,” Mohapatra said.
Earlier, when Mohapatra’s residence was searched by the CBI, he had said some people had deliberately launched a “campaign” against him and the searches would help bring out the truth. However, Mohapatra admitted he had met Seashore Group CMD Prashant Dash, who is now in jail. “I had met him (Dash) when he came to my house and proposed to set up a maize processing unit in Nabarangpur district,” he had said.
