Los Angeles: Veteran record producer Quincy Jones created history Monday as he took home yet another Grammy with his documentary ‘Quincy’ winning for best music film at the 2019 Grammy awards.
The win marks the 85-year-old legend’s 28th Grammy, making him the living artiste with the most trophies in history of the awards.
Jones has won Grammys in more than 10 categories over his nearly seven decades long career but his win for ‘Quincy’ is his first in the best music film category. The award is also his first in 17 years. His last win was in 2001 for best spoken word album, ‘Q – The Autobiography Of Quincy Jones’.
‘Quincy’ released on Netflix in September. Jones’ daughter, ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor Rashida Jones, served as co-director and co-writer alongside Alan Hicks.
Late conductor Georg Solti holds the record for most Grammy wins of any artiste, winning 31 awards before his death in September 1997.
Meanwhile Childish Gambino won the ‘Song of the Year’ award for ‘This Is America’ becoming the first rap track in the history of the Grammys to get the award.
Gambino’s scathing video about gun violence had a massively viral release last May and remained one of the most talked-about musical moments of 2018.
‘This Is America’ won over fellow nominees which included Black Panther’s hit single ‘All the Stars’ and Drake’s ‘God’s Plan’.
Gambino aka Donald Glover was not present at the ceremony and host Alicia Keys accepted the award on his behalf.
