Bhubaneswar, July 19: Despite fears of a deficit monsoon, heavy rainfall continued to lash parts of the state with the Met department Sunday predicting heavy rain to occur over interior districts till July 24.
The India Meteorological Department said the upper air cyclonic circulation that persisted over west-central Bay of Bengal since past few days has now moved to Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand in the past 24 hours.
The cyclonic system may lightly affect the state in terms of rain in the coming days. However, as it has built up over land and not over sea, its impact may not be severe, said Met sources.
IMD said the southwest monsoon is vigorous over west Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and is active over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
The local Met centre has traced moderate rainfall over isolated pockets of the state with the highest of 12.6 mm rain being recorded at Bolangir followed by 8 mm at Hirakud and 4.6 mm at Malkangiri in the past 24 hours.
Weather over the capital city and its neighbourhood may remain cloudy with chances of rain or thundershower to occur in the next 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature may remain around 33 and 24 degree Celsius over the city Monday.
