Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: Rameswar Sporting entered the semifinals of the Umakanta Garabadu Memorial Cricket tournament beating Oscar Sporting by six wickets in a match played at the BEM HS Ground here Sunday.
Opting to bat first, Oscar Sporting were bowled out for 121 against some accurate bowling by Rajesh Mohanty (2/14), Surag Das (2/12) and Chirag Das (2/11). The trio bowled a tight line and length to restrict the opposition. Only Anil Kumar Singh (40, 53b) could manage to offer some resistance.
Chasing the victory target of 122, Rameswar Sporting scored 127 for four in 26.1 overs with Binay Kumar (33, 37b) fashioning the chase. Damburu Rana (2/12) bowled well for Oscar Sporting.
Crown Sporting will meet Rising Students Cricket Club in the first semifinal, Monday.
Sonu wreaks havoc
Sonu Kumar Singh (8/45) bowled brilliantly to help Jharkhand dismiss hosts Orissa for 148 in their first innings in the four-day under-23 match at Bokaro, Sunday. The visitors had scored 175 in their first essay and thus took a lead of 27 runs. In the second knock, they were 60 for the loss of four wickets taking their overall lead to 87.
Resuming at their overnight score of 58 for one, Orissa lost the remaining nine wickets for 90 runs with none being able to handle the guile of Sonu. Except for Debapriya Pattanayak (38 73b, 3×4, 1×6), none of the others showed the inclination to fight it out in the middle.
When Jharkhand batted a second time, Debapriya (2/22) and Tarakant Samal (2/20) bowled well for the hosts.
