Bhubaneswar: Popular rapper Samir Rishu Mohanty aka ‘Big Deal’ is back with yet another video on Odisha. This time he is speaking about the development of the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Samir’s video ‘Khusi Ta’, which was released recently, talks about the various aspects that have contributed to the development of Odisha. He points out that by hosting the Hockey World Cup, Odisha has become a sports hub; the ‘Smart City’ programme has transformed Bhubaneswar and various other schemes for the benefit of the poor, like providing affordable meals and free health services have contributed to the state’s development. He also points out how Odisha helped Kerala after it was hit by devastating floods last year.
Soon after Samir shared his video on social media, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also took to his Twitter handle to thank the rapper.
This is not first time ‘Big Deal’ has created a rap video on Odisha. Some time back he had done another one on the skill and talent available in the state. The video was directed by Nila Madhab Panda. Moreover, he made a video on his origin and link with Odisha through his rap video Mu Heli Odia.
The video was even shared by Chief Minister Naven Patnaik on his social media site wherein he had thanked Samir aka ‘Big Deal’ for the musical on the development of Odisha over the years.
Talking to Orissa POST, Samir said, “I’ve been away from Odisha for the past 16 years and it was only last year that I started visiting my beautiful home more frequently. Last year, the developments I saw in Bhubaneswar – the roads, bridges, infrastructure and even the canopy of trees, really amazed me. I live in Bangalore and travel a lot to Bombay. In comparison, I feel Bhubaneswar is a much better place to live in. It is just my opinion and what baffles me is how Odisha is showcased in the national media as poor and backward. Therefore I wanted to change that image that Odisha by doing this video.”
I have observed the transformation the state has gone through in the last couple of years. “We recorded the song in August and shot the video in December,” he informed. The video was choreographed by Harihar Dash and produced by Panda. Sambalpuri drums have been extensively used done in the video.
