Phulnakhara, June 21: As per an earlier plan, the Commissionerate Police Tuesday launched a speed laser gun procured at Rs 9 lakh in an attempt to crackdown on high speed and rash driving on National Highway 16.
The equipment can trace and provide information about the speed limit, registration number, date and the digital image of a vehicle at a distance of 1 km. If the speed limit of a vehicle exceeds that of the permissible limit mentioned in the signage in the area, the driver will be penalised.
Cuttack deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora launched the speed laser gun at Balikuda on Cuttack-Bhubaneswar National Highway (16). On the first day, five four-wheelers were caught for violating the norms. Traffic police collected `1,000 fine from each of the drivers, sources said.
Traffic ACP PK Dalai said the speed limit for two wheelers between Palasuni and Gopalpur on the NH is 50 kmph, while for four-wheelers it is 70 kmph and for heavy vehicles 60.
