Rayagada: A girl from Jhinjilibadi village under Kolnara block in Rayagada district, who was sold in Rajasthan for Rs 1 lakh by a conman, has been rescued. The rescue team brought the girl back to Rayagada Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Harian Mehta.
According to reports, Mehta took the girl from Rayagada after promising her a job. However, he held the girl captive in Rajasthan and later sold her.
Her mother Himirika Gorimani and relatives approached Rayagada Collector and filed a complaint.
They also approached the District Labour officer.
On the direction of the Collector, a special team comprising two police officials and a labour officer was formed. The three-member team along with the victim’s mother visited Baran district of Rajasthan.
With the help of Baran district administration, they rescued the girl from Baunsakela village in the district where she was kept captive by Mehta at his house.
However, Mehta managed to give the slip to the cops.
