Bhubaneswar: The state has decided to provide subsidies and financial assistance for regional connectivity as a part of its ‘Make in Odisha’ initiative. It is expected that such subsidies and financial assistance will make the tickets affordable for common man, the source said.
After receiving licence from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the government is all set to start flight operation from Jharsuguda to Bhubaneswar June 14.
This was decided at a state-level Monitoring Committee meeting on regional connectivity scheme (RCS)-UDAN held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here Thursday.
Padhi advised the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) to expand the facilities for training of security personnel. They were advised to provide training here in Bhubaneswar so that maximum number of security personnel could be trained within a minimum time span.
Meanwhile, Rourkela airstrip has been made ready for operation and MoU has been signed recently in between Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and AAI in this regard.
It was decided that state government would also provide security and fire personnel for Rourkela airstrip. Application has been submitted for civil aviation licence for Rourkela. Flight operation would start after getting the licence, sources said.
The runway expansion work in Jeypore and Utkela is completed. Padhi directed to complete other associated civil work by June 2018. The Obstacle and Limitation Surface (OLS) Survey of all the four airstrips have been completed.
Flight operations will commence on routes like Bhubaneswar to Utkela, Utklela to Raipur, Bhubaneswar to Jeypore, Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda to Ranchi and Bhubaneswar to Rourkela.
