Bargarh: Odisha Human Rights Commission (ORHC) has asked state Crime Branch(CB) into the ‘death’ of Jitu Dansena(19), a student of Majhipali village under Paikamal police station and his subsequent miraculous return.
Jitu had gone missing but police sent two youths to jail on charge of killing the former. However, Jitu returned home after 19 months of his disappearance.
Based on the petitions filed by human rights activists Biswapriya Kanungao, Bijay Kumar Panda and Chandranath Dani, the panel registered a case and initiated action. The commission has asked the additional DGP of CB to file a report within six weeks. Similarly, it has asked the administration to get Jitu’s health examined by experts of major hospitals like VIMSAR. He should be provided with the required treatment facility and the its expenses should be born from State Treatment Funds(STF). The Bargarh Collector and chief district medical officer have been directed to facilitate the required treatment.
Jitu, son of Manoranjan Dansana had gone missing from December 7, 2016. The latter filed a case at Paikamal police station December 24, 2016. Police registered a case of abduction and murder. Police also arrested two youths – Hadu Gurla and Raghab Nayak – of this town on charge of kidnapping and murder of Jitu.
On the other hand, an ice-cream seller Bijay Sa spotted Jitu at Kolkata and latter the family brought him home. Police, instead of investigating the case properly, arrested two innocent youths and sent them jail.
The petitioners said police have violated the human rights by lodging the youths in jail for over a year. They sought compensation of Rs 20 lakh to Jitu who has lost his mental balance and two lakhs each to Hadu and Raghav who served jail terms without committing any crime.
The Rights panel gave the ruling taking the content of the petitions into consideration.
