Review Meet: DGP calls Maoists to return to the mainstream

Bolangir: Director General of Police Rajendra Prasad Sharma called upon Maoists to shun violence and return to the mainstream. The DGP said this while attending a review meeting here on May 12 Maoist encounter here Thursday.

Sharma, after his arrival in a chopper at Manoharpur police ground, was given a guard of honour at Reserve police ground. Later he drove to the district police headquarters to attend the review meeting.

Sharma, after emerging from the meeting, called the ultras to shun violence and live a life of common citizen. The surrendering ultras will be rehabilitated as per government norms, he said. Sanjeev, a hardcore ultra and the divisional committee member and core committee member Rakesh of Bolangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund division were killed.

He lauded the district police for the successful anti-Maoist operation stating that the police team has become more cautious. The Rs 9 lakh award announced on heads of the two ultras will be given to the police team engaged in the operation.

He also said the security forces are keeping a close watch on the security of people in the Maoist-affected regions of the district. Later, he returned to Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, the parents of Maoist Sanjeev killed in the encounter have arrived at Bolangir from Chhattisgarh to claim the body of their son from the district police.

In this meeting, SP K Siba Subramani made a detailed power point presentation of the combing operation and encounter of the two ultras near Magur jungle inside Bender reserve forest near Dudukamal village.

He narrated as to how after receiving the tip-off a joint team of SOG and DVF led by him lay in ambush in the jungle and killed the two Maoists in an encounter.

ADG (operation) RP Koche, IG (SIW) Ghanashyam Upadhaya, director (intelligence) Sunil Ray, IG (intelligence) RK Sharma, DIG (North) Satyabrata Bhoi, SOG commandant Aniruddh Singh, SP K Siba Subramani, CRPF commandant Anthony Jhonson and senior officials were present in the meeting.

High alert on Kalahandi, Kandhamal border

Rayagada, May 17: State DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma Thursday visited Kandhamal district to review the situation following the death of five Maoists in encounter. He asked Rayagada police to remain alert as there are chances of the Maoists straying into the district to create violence.

Based on his order, high alert was sounded in regions bordering Rayagada-Kandhamal and Rayagada-Kalahandi districts, it was learnt.

Rayagada SP Rahul PR said the combing operations have been intensified on the basis of intelligence inputs. It is expected that the left wing extremists, to make their presence felt, might resort to killing of innocent people accusing them of police informers, the SP added.

The DVF, CRPF and BSF jawans have stepped up operations in Muniguda, Ambadola, Kalyansinghpur, Bissamkata regions as these areas are known as the Red corridor of Rayagada district, it was learnt.

This apart, round-the-clock operation has been launched in Niyamgiri region as the hill is considered a safe haven for ultras.
