Baripada: Vigilance officials Monday arrested a woman revenue inspector on the charge of taking bribe from a person for demarcating his land at Pokharia revenue circle under Saraskana tehsil in Mayurbhanj district.
According to a complaint lodged by Vigilance officials, Sarbeswar Sahu had approached Pokharia revenue inspector Anima Ghosh for demarcation of a land owned by his family.
After visiting the tehsil office several times, the RI demanded Rs 20,000 for the job. As he expressed his inability to pay the sum, Ghosh said she would settle for Rs 15,000. Later, Sarbeswar’s son Kamal Lochan met the RI and pleaded her to do the job for Rs 10,000.
However, despite several days of running to the RI office, the inspector did not turn up to demarcate the land.
Finding no other option, Kamal Lochan lodged a complaint with the Balasore Vigilance. The officials nabbed the RI while receiving the money from Kamal Lochan. She attempted to abscond but was nabbed by the officials.
The officials later conducted a raid at her residence in Tulasichuna. The raiding team was led by Vigilance DSP Sanjay Kumar Das Mohapatra and inspector Pradip Samal. PNN
