Sahajan, 23, the son of a rickshaw puller Sk Abutalib and Kamrun Nisha, has cracked the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2017 by securing category rank of 4888 and all India rank of 8642.
Sahajan, who hails from Khadianga village here, has cracked one of the toughest examinations in the country braving all odds and adversaries.
Belonging to an impoverished family, Sahajan is the youngest of six siblings. His father, though a rickshaw puller, always encouraged them to go for higher education and work hard to achieve success in life, Sahajan says.
“My father had dreamt to make me a doctor and I was very clear about achieving the goal of my father,” said Sahajan, who secured overall rank of 7722.
Completing his schooling from Kendrapara High school, Sahajan did Plus Two (Science) and B.Sc with Physics Honours from Kendrapara Autonomous College. Later, he went to Bhubaneswar to prepare for medical entrance examinations.
“I taught students at a Laxmisagar-based coaching centre for income and received scholarship from a medical coaching institute in the capital,” says Sahajan.
“The blessings of my father, mother and Almighty Allah helped me achieve the feat,” he adds.
Sahajan wants to become a medicine specialist or an orthopaedic and wants to serve the poor and the needy.
“I am proud of my youngest son’s achievement. He has fulfilled my dream,” said Abutalib.
“Me and my husband struggled hard and even slept without food on many nights due to our poor economic condition. Still then, we managed to provide proper education to our children and always encouraged them to go for higher studies,” Kamrun said with tears rolling down her cheeks. PNN
