Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: A mysterious disease has afflicted several people. The doctors and health experts are simply clueless. This time the strange disease has unnerved the authorities in Jajpur district and has already claimed two lives.
According to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) director Shatntanu Kar, the disease has claimed two lives and afflicted as many as 20 persons in Korei in Jajpur.
“We have sent a team of experts Friday who have collected 16 blood samples which will be examined in our laboratory. We will go to the source of the disease soon,” said Kar.
According to local sources, Korei village, where the disease occurred, has a population of 920 persons, and 25 of them were affected. The disease has hounded persons of all age groups – from six to 60.
Affected people have complained of high fever, vomiting, nausea and headache. However, none of them has reported symptoms of delirium. “A small part of the village has been afflicted. Health experts there have taken adequate measures to check the spread of the disease. However, the source of the disease will ascertained after proper examination,” said Kar.
Earlier, a mysterious disease had claimed 14 lives in Malkangiri district and affected more than 50 persons. The health department is still clueless about the origin of the ailment in Malkangiri. Neither the RMRC nor any other research institution has any information about the particular disease.
Public health director Kailash Dash said examinations are in progress and adequate measures have been taken to curb the disease from spreading its tentacles.
“There is no need to panic. We have taken all precautions in the village. The cause of the disease will be known soon,” added Dash.
