Kendrapara: In a tragic incident, a gang of robbers brutally killed an Odia contractor in Kerala after tying his hands and feet, a report said Monday.
The deceased was identified as Pravakar Das of Pentha village under Patkura police limits in this district. His wife also sustained injuries in the attack by the dacoits who looted gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh from the house Saturday night.
Pravakar, a construction contractor, had settled down at Kerigada village under Kannur district of Kerala with his family, sources said.
According to Pravakar’s mother Minati Das, her son with his wife and two kids had been living in Kerala for quite some time. Pravakar had even engaged some jobless youths from his native place in his business.
Late Saturday night, some miscreants knocked the main door of the house. They barged into the house the moment Pravakar’s wife opened the door. They first attacked her with sharp-edged weapons and tied Pravakar’s hands and feet to loot the house. Soon after, they killed Pravakar and decamped with the jewellery and cash. The cash was meant for distribution among the workers as wages, Minati said.
Meanwhile, Minati and other villagers urged the district administration to make necessary arrangement to bring back Pravakar’s body to his birth place. They also demanded stringent action against the accused involved in the killing by the Kerala government.
