Cuttack: Lower rated Rumit Gupta scripted a stunning win over eighth seed Khalid Sultan in a first round match of the State Senior Snooker Championship at the Cuttack Club here Sunday.
Rumit triumphed over Khalid 3-1 (44-8, 24-47, 64-42, 52-42). On the second day Subrat Das entered the quarterfinal round as the only player. He got a walk over against Heman More in the first round match. Then he thrashed Saroj Das 3-0 (61-20, 62-30, 82-61) in the second round.
In other first round matches Jiten Sarangi spanked Govind Sharma 3-0 (67-2, 56-23, 64-4) and Rakesh Roshan Pradhan defeated Akash Mohapatra 3-1 (60-38, 47-24, 32-59, 67-31).
Squad announced
Cricket Association of the Visually Impaired Orissa (CAVI) announced a 15-member state squad Sunday for the VIth East Zone and 25th National Cricket Tournament for the Visually Impaired.
The East Zone tournament will be played in West Bengal, October 20-22, while the National Tournament will be played in Mumbai, October 29- November 3. Jafar Iqbal has been appointed as the captain of the team.

VIth All India Gate Ball Open Championship was inaugurated by Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patasani at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Sunday. The tournament will continue till October 17.
