Bhubaneswar: A six-year-old rape survivor from Salipur died Sunday after struggling for life for more than a week at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, an official said.
The minor was on ventilator support ever since she was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. The girl was admitted to the trauma care ICU in the paediatric ward, SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo said.
The victim had slipped into comma minutes after her admission to the hospital and her brain stopped functioning three days ago.
SCB superintendent Shyama Kanungo said, “The minor girl suffered a cardiac arrest at around 4.30pm and after a thorough checkup the 13-member doctor’s team declared her dead at 5pm.
Meanwhile, the SCB authorities formed a two-member doctor team comprising Forensic Medicine and Technology to conduct the post-mortem of the minor. The body, which was handed over to the family at 6.30pm, was taken to Salipur, where her last rights will be performed, a source said.
The girl was found in a critical condition inside a school compound in Salipur area of Cuttack April 21. Initially, she was rushed to a hospital in Salipur and later shifted to the SCB.
The girl was reported missing after she went to a shop near Jagannathpur Nodal Upper Primary school to buy chocolates around 6 pm April 21. The accused lured her away with a chocolate.
The accused had tried to strangle the girl to death after committing the crime. Her private part has grievous injuries. She also suffered severe bleeding.
“After raping her on the school premises, he attempted to kill her by throttling her. Accused Mohammad Mustaq was arrested,” said Krutibas Jena, Cuttack (Rural) Additional Superintendent of Police.
Meanwhile the girl’s father and her elder sister have demanded a speedy trial in the case and death sentence for the culprit.
Class X girl raped in Balasore
Balasore: A minor girl was allegedly raped at Soro in this district Sunday. Following the complaint from the victim’s parents, Soro police registered a case and got the girl medically examined. The accused is identified as Anu Behera from Simulia village and the police have launched a manhunt to nab him. According to reports, the minor, a Class X student, had rejected Anu’s advances many times. Following this, Anu abducted the girl to his home Friday and allegedly committed the crime.
