Bhubaneswar: The ‘intolerance’ statement of food minister Sanjay Das Burma sparked a political slanging between opposition and ruling party Thursday.
While the opposition said those who can’t face the truth dubs all criticisms as intolerance, BJD said intolerance is on the rise.
Das Burma, who faced criticism from opposition leaders as well as his own party members, in his reply during the discussion on demands for grants of FSCW department had said the previous day that there had been ‘a rise in intolerance’ in politics which is harmful.
Taking potshots over his reaction, Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinpati said, “Everyone has a right to criticise. Those who can’t face the truth usually tries to interpret criticism as intolerance.” BJP member Pradeep Purohit also supported Bahinipati and indirectly criticised Das Burma alleging that he doesn’t have nerve to face the truth.
However, BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy said the way opposition members are taking up the (Das Burma) issue can never be termed as mere criticism. “There is a rise of intolerance in politics. There is no doubt in it,” he said.
