Cuttack: Sarojini Giri (4/10) and Sushree Pradhan (2/15) spun a vicious web around Assam batswomen to help the hosts win their first match of the women’s Under-23 Zonal ODI tournament at the Ravenshaw University Ground here Tuesday.
Put into bat by Orissa, the visitors folded for 85 runs in 39.1 overs. None of the batswomen managed to get going against Sarojini and Sushree who bowled very well in tandem. Except for Kalpana Shoutal (21) and Rashmi Dey (19) at the top of the order, none of the other Assam batswomen was able to achieve double digit scores.
Chasing a paltry victory target of 86, Orissa faltered also and were reduced to 31 for four. However, Sushree (27, 57b, 2×4) came to the rescue of her side with a responsible knock. After her departure with the score on 74, Sunita Murmu (17 n o) stayed till the end to ensure victory. Orissa got four points from the game.
