Polasara: Son of a former sarpanch was allegedly beaten to death while two others were injured after being attacked by miscreants in Bada Ichhapur village under Polasara police limits in Ganjam district late Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sushant Nayak, son of former sarpanch Dandapani Nayak of Pandiripada panchayat.
According to sources, the victim along with his two associates was returning home from Bhubaneswar after attending some work when he was intercepted by the miscreants who then thrashed him brutally.
The yet to be identified miscreants also attacked his associates who tried to intervene. While the trio was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to nearby MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, the victim was declared dead by the doctors. His two associates are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On being informed, police reached the spot and registered a case. While the exact reason behind the attack is still unknown, it is suspected that the attack was the fallout of political enmity.
Police have started investigation into the incident. Policemen have been deployed in the village to avoid any further untoward incident. A detailed investigation into the matter is underway, sources said.
