Ghasipura: The business of momos, now a part of street food culture, has been picking up in Anandapur area of Keonjhar district. Leading in this momo business is a woman who has become self-sufficient.
She is Sasmita Das, wife of Gobinda Das of Fakirpur under Anandapur municipality. The momos that she serves is popular in the area. With this humble business, she has carved out a name for herself, apart from supplementing her family income.
Momo is served piping hot with vegetable or paneer chips and meat fillings inside a steamed wheat flour bun. Due to its tasty nature, it has emerged as a popular street food in Anandapur, locals said.
This couple of Fakirpur had stayed in Nepal for many years. In the Himlalayn kingdom, Gobinda used to work in a company. And it is there Sasmita learnt the nuances of preparing momos with the help of neighbours and relatives.
“With a strong zeal, I managed to learn making momos.” Sasmita said.
The couple thought of taking a chance and started this business in their native town. They came back home and have been selling momos since then. They have tasted success in it. The family has been earning enough to meet their expenses with their momos becoming a favourite morning and evening snacks.
Refined wheat flour is kneaded into dough. Then, small balls of dough are made. The little balls of dough is stiffed with chicken or paneer chips and are steamed.
Her momo is so popular that people from various parts of Anandapur, Ghasipura, Shalapada and other peripheral areas throng her stall every day.
Her husband Gobinda is happy with her humble business. Given the growing demand for momos in the local market, Gobinda is planning to expand this business.
