Bhubaneswar: The ‘Save Our Sainik School Campaign’ has threatened to resume its agitation if the entry of municipal garbage vehicles into the dumping yard near Sainik School, Bhubaneswar, is not stopped immediately.
At a meeting held Sunday, members of the campaign expressed concern that municipal garbage vehicles were continuing to enter the dumping yard adjoining the school despite a letter from Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, calling for urgent action on the issue.
The campaign has decided to meet the Housing and Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee, the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) Member Secretary and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor today.
The campaign said its demands were clear and sequential first, the immediate stoppage of garbage vehicles entering the dumping yard adjoining Sainik School, followed by the removal of all accumulated waste within a specified timeframe.
According to the campaign members, Seth, in a DO letter dated June 28, 2026, had described the dumping site as a serious health hazard and urged the Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, to ensure its early relocation.
The campaign alleged that despite the communication, no concrete action had been taken and garbage vehicles continued to enter the site every day.
It also referred to an earlier Ministry of Defence letter dated April 1, 2025, which reportedly made it clear that Sainik School would continue at its historic campus and that parents were not in favour of relocating the institution.
The letter had suggested that alternatives should be explored to address issues such as road connectivity and traffic without shifting the school.
“The position of the Centre is clear — the school will remain and the dumping yard should be removed. It is unacceptable that garbage vehicles are still entering the area,” the members said.
The campaign also called upon the OSPCB to enforce its earlier notices regarding the dumping yard.
