Raighar, April 2: In a shocking incident, a man burnt a teacher alive when the latter was going home Thursday in this block of Nabarangpur district. The accused later surrendered to the police.
The deceased, Biswajit Mistry (37) of Chhatabeda-1 (DNK) village taught at a primary school in Indra Nagar. A local spotted Mistry on fire on the embankment of a pond Thursday morning and informed police. Raighar inspector in-charge Gopinath Sira rushed to the spot but could not save Mistry.
Police recovered a bloodstained lathi and a match box from the spot.
Later a man named Prashant Das surrendered before Raighar police claiming responsibility for the murder.
