Koraput/Malkangiri: Combing and anti-insurgency operations were launched in various Maoist-dominated districts and in bordering areas of the state as the Peoples Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) week observed by the Maoists started today.
Posters and banners calling the people for bandhs and urging them to observe the PLGA week were found in various places of Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
The government bus services from Koraput to Rayagada, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts have been suspended in view of the likely violence in these areas.
The authorities have intensified combing operations in bordering areas and police are deployed at entrance points of these districts for frisking vehicles.
“We have conducted a meeting with IICs (Inspector-in-Charge), Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPO), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) officers and they have been alerted about the threat. Combing operations have also been intensified in the bordering areas of Malkangiri,” said Koraput SP Kanwar Bishal Singh.
“BSF and police have been alerted and directed to follow SoPs (standard operating procedure). The BSF, DVF and SOG teams are also conducting joint anti-Maoists operations in the interior parts of the district,” said Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.
The red rebels will observe the PLGA week till December 8.
