Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: In the wake of revelation of several bigwigs, politicos and businessmen for their complicity in the chit fund scam, Rajesh Kumar, DIG of north-central range based in Talcher, was summoned and interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Sunday.
Kumar was interrogated by CBI officials for over three hours. He went into the CBI headquarters office at 9.20am and came out at 12.30pm.
As soon as he emerged out of the office, he told the waiting media, “I have told the CBI whatever I had to tell them,” and left the premises at once.
Kumar is the first IPS officer to be questioned in connection with the chit fund scam. Significantly, as the DIG, Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, before taking over as north-central DIG, Kumar was in charge of the investigation into the chit fund scam.
The CBI took over the probe later at the behest of the Supreme Court.
Kendrapara SP grilled
Later in the day, the CBI sleuths also interrogated Kendrapara superintendent of police Satish Gajbhiye here in connection with the chit fund scam.
Gajbhiye reached the CBI office riding on a motorcycle at 7pm and was closeted with CBI officials for over two and a half hour.
Rajesh Kumar’s name propped out along with Gajbhiye’s from the diaries seized by the CBI during their raids on the house of Subhankar.
Nayak’s seized diaries had suggested that Gajbihiye, who was the SP of Dhenkanal earlier, was also one of the beneficiaries of the Seashore group of companies.
After interrogation Gajbhiye told newspersons that he knew Nayak, but denied having received money from him.
