Jhumpura, July 8: An elephant separated from its 22 member-herd, has caused havoc in Mirigisingha area under Champua range in Keonjhar for the last two days. Forest department source said that a tusker got separated from a herd of 22 jumbos and damaged paddy crops, garden and a tree.
The tusker appeared Tuesday morning in the field of Radhakant Mohant while he was ploughing land with power tiller. On seeing the elephant, Mohant fled the place and the elephant damaged the power tiller.
The jumbo, then headed for Baulamala where it trampled a bike. Madan Naik was on his bike. On seeing the elephant, he left the bike and fled. The pachyderm damaged it.
Forest officials were informed about the incidents. “We are keeping a watch on the elephant”, Champua ranger Srirampad Arabinda Mishra said. He added that efforts were on to drive 21 elephants, holed up between Mirigisingha and Naupani forests.
