Gopalpur: Police here arrested an elderly man and forwarded him to court Friday for impregnating a girl on false promise to marry her under Golanthara police station limits in Ganjam district.
The accused was identified as Manu Naik, 70, of Biswanathpur village. As per reports, Manu was residing at ODRP colony and the victim, who worked as a labourer, at his neighbouring house. Manu lured the girl and repeatedly raped her on false promise to marry her.
Eventually, the girl was found to be seven months pregnant. When the girl insisted Manu to marry her, he simply denied and threatened her not to disclose the matter to anybody. However, the girl lodged FIR against Manu at Golanthara police station in this regard.
Acting on the FIR, police arrested Manu from the village. Later the girl and the accused underwent medical tests and Manu was forwarded to court. The statement of the girl was recorded under CrPC Act 164, said IIC Bibekananda Mahanta.
