Ganjam: Healthcare services came to a halt at Ganjam community health centre (CHC) after a patient’s kin thrashed an Ayush doctor Friday.
The incident followed after the needle of a syringe broke when a staff nurse was administering injection to the patient.
Enraged, the kin of the patient thrashed Ayush Dr Banoj Kanta Kar. A complaint was lodged in Ganjam police station.
After reports surfaced, the hospital staffers refused to discharge their duties and left the hospital. The protests severely affected healthcare services in the hospital as pregnant women admitted for delivery were left unattended to.
The highhandedness of the patient’s kin did not go down well with the locals as they gheraoed him and questioned him on the assault.
Dr Kar is managing the healthcare services alone in the hospital in the absence of the medical officer, who is on a study leave.
According to sources, the accused youth is a relative of the chairperson of Ganjam NAC.
The husband of the NAC chairperson rushed to the hospital and tried to placate Dr Kar, but in vain.
Dr Kar said the hospital staffers will not attend duty till the accused youth is punished for his wrongdoing.
