Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah’s Mahasangram Samabesh triggered traffic chaos in the city Tuesday morning.
Several vehicles ferrying party supporters reached Biju Patnaik International Airport to greet Shah which led to traffic snarls at Sishu Bhawan, new airport terminal Square, Capital Hospital Square, Rajamahal, Master Canteen and BJP state office near Sriya Square among others.
Traffic rules were thrown to the winds at the airport where dozens of vehicles were parked in front of the domestic terminal T1 lane that left regular passengers in the lurch.
A biker stuck on Capital Road said, “I normally take five minutes to go to airport from Rajmahal Square but today I got stuck on this road for 15 minutes due to traffic jams.”
Manas Ranjan Pradhan, another commuter who was getting late to his office, said “Party supporters who throng public places to receive their leaders create problems to road users especially during peak hours. Today is a working day and in the afternoon most of us need to commute to go to various places.”
A traffic constable who was posted near Capital Hospital Square said the rally is not just the headache for motorists but also for us as everybody blames police for mismanagement and chaos.
Meanwhile, many buses in which party supporters were travelling parked haphazardly in front of BJP party office posing problems for commuters.
