Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shaktikanta Das, visited the World Skill Center (WSC) Saturday, reaffirming the growing national focus on advanced skill development as a key driver of India’s economic transformation.
Das reviewed the institute’s state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence in vertical transportation, air conditioning and refrigeration, beauty and wellness, and the School of Hospitality. He appreciated the advanced infrastructure, modern training methods and strong emphasis on industry-aligned, outcome-driven skill development.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg and Skill Development & Technical Education (SD&TE) Commissioner-cum-Secretary Bhupendra Singh Poonia accompanied Das during the visit. He also interacted with the institute’s senior leadership, including CEO Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, SD&TE Additional Secretary and WSC COO Pinaki Patnaik, and Principal Subhanga Kishore Das.
The discussions offered insights into Odisha’s evolving skill landscape, showcasing WSC as a flagship institution driving excellence in technical education and training. Key deliberations focused on enhancing workforce readiness of the skilled talent pool, continuously improving the quality and relevance of training programmes, and aligning skilling initiatives with emerging global industry demands.
The need to deepen collaboration between government, industry and training institutions to ensure employment-oriented, future-ready skill development was strongly emphasised. Das’ visit underscored the state government’s strategic vision to empower youth with cutting-edge skills, foster innovation in training delivery and create better livelihood opportunities.
