Ranpur: In a rare act of revenge, two youths Friday brutally killed a person in broad daylight at Balabhadrapur under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district, 20 years after their father’s murder.
Deceased Bamadev Pradhan (50) had allegedly killed Kabir Sahoo, father of the two accused – Gandhi Sahoo and Mantu sahoo – about two decades back over an extramarital affair.
While the siblings fled the village after committing the crime, police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem to a local government hospital. A bloodstained wooden plank was also seized from the spot.
According to the case details, Bamadev had allegedly established an illicit relationship with Kabir’s wife in 1996. Kabir was dead against his wife’s affair. Blinded by love, Bamdev hatched a plan and managed to eliminate Kabir with the help of the latter’s wife. Kabir left behind his two sons and a daughter.
At that time, a case was registered at the local police station. Though Bamdev and Kabir’s wife were lodged in jail in the case, they were acquitted in 2004 for lack of evidence and witness.
Later, the two started living at a distance from the village. Bamdev was working as a mason to maintain his family. Meanwhile, Kabir’s sons had grown up and launched an eatery in the village for their livelihood. However, they didn’t forget the incident of 1996 when their father was killed. The two were on the lookout for an opportunity to avenge their father’s murder.
They found Bamdev sitting on a bench near the eatery Friday. All of a sudden, the siblings picked up a wooden plank started hitting Bamdev’s head till he died. Later, the siblings fled from the spot.
“The accused would be arrested soon,” Ranpur IIC Girija Shankar Rath said. PNN
