Puri: Silver cladding has been applied to seven of the eight designated entrances at Jagannath temple in Puri. The continuing cladding work is nearing completion, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) administrator of rituals Jitendra Kumar Sahu informed Sunday morning.

According to Sahu, the seven existing wooden doors including Jaya Vijaya Dwara, Beharana Dwara, Adi Nrusingha temple, Bimala temple, Mahalaxmi temple and Sata Pahacha Dwara have been cladded with silver sheets containing intricate designs.

Apart from the seven doors, silver cladding of Kalahata Dwara is to be carried out during next Rath Yatra festival, Sahu stated.

With the Holy Trinity inside the temple, it will be difficult to conduct the silver cladding work. However, silver cladding of other gates in the temple will be taken up in the second phase, Sahu added.

Already there is a silver cladding on Kalahata Dwara. Existing sheets will be replaced with new ones. The cladding work will be taken up during Rath Yatra in 2022,” a senior temple servitor expressed.

It is pertinent to mention, nearly two tons of silver metal has been used for cladding of selected doors in the temple, of which a devotee from Mumbai had earlier donated 1,300 kg of silver sheets.
