Baripada: Similipal National Park will remain closed for visitors for 14 days in view of the tiger enumeration drive which will begin Sunday, said Ajit Kumar Satpathy, deputy director of Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).
Forest officials will conduct the census drive till April 30, he said.
Camera trapping method will also be used in the census with closed circuit television cameras installed at 500 locations. Sources said about 350 officials have been deployed in the entire exercise.
According to reports, a tiger census drive was held at STR for six days from February 5 to 10, but the number of tigers could not be counted properly due to deciduous period of the trees, the department had then made it clear. PNN
