Buguda: Construction work of a building is under way at Bhamisiali panchayat under Buguda block in Ganjam. However, what is strange about the building is that it has information plaques about three projects on its wall.
It allegedly points to possible bungling of funds meant for various projects, reports said. One plaque says, Rs 2 lakh has been spent for renovation of the panchayat office post the Titili cyclone.
The under-construction building is meant for a facility centre on the premises of Bhamisiali High school. Rs 10 lakh has been mentioned as project cost for the building in its plaque.
Another plaque reads, fund to the tune of Rs 5 lakh has been provided under the Ama Gaon Ama Bikah scheme for a library and information centre in 2020-21.
Besides, yet another plaque reads Rs 2 lakh has been spent in 2018-19 for renovation of the panchayat building post Titili cyclone. Various quarters and locals sought to know why information plaques have been put on the wall of the building instead of their respective project sites.
When local sarpanch was asked about the renovation of the panchayat building, he was surprised. He said the panchayat building had neither suffered damage due to the cyclone nor any renovation work was done for it.
Junior engineer Bibhudatt Mishra, who is looking after the works in the panchayat pleaded ignorance. However, assistant engineer Gopal Krushna Gouda explained that the building is being constructed with funds from two schemes.
He added that someone has wrongly put the plaque of Titili renovation fund on the building wall. Villagers demanded a high level investigation into such projects to bring out the alleged irregularities.
