Bhubaneswar: In a step towards ensuring quality tertiary care to children, the state government sanctioned 424 more beds for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics, popularly known as Sishu Bhawan, in Cuttack Saturday.
Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister Mukesh Mahaling approved 424 more beds for Sishu Bhawan, taking the total bed strength at the premier paediatric heath facility to 846 from the existing 422 at the old building of the hospital, an official said.
According to sources, Union H&FW Minister JP Nadda, along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Mahaling, inaugurated the new seven-storey building of the hospital in the Silver City April 11, 2025.
“The bed strength has been enhanced to 846, keeping in mind the new seven-storey facility.
Along with the bed strength, the state government has also sanctioned 59 new faculty and doctor posts in different categories,” said the official.
