Cuttack: District collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra has directed the Sishu Bhawan authorities to complete the repair of the newborn ward which was gutted due to a short-circuit November 29. During his visit to the premier childcare hospital Thursday, Mishra expressed his displeasure over the delay in completion of the repair work and instructed Sishu Bhawan superintendent Saroj Kumar Satpathy to complete task within 10 days.
A 21-day old baby had sustained severe burn injuries in Ward No. 5 of the hospital during the mishap. Later, the child died while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital December 3. When asked, Satpathy said despite infrastructure bottlenecks post mishap, they are able to accommodate and treat the patients.
Sources said 15 warmer machines, 21 phototherapy machines and three oxygen concentrators were damaged in the mishap. A tender proposal to install a new oxygen pipeline will be sent to the state government, said public works department executive engineer Pramod Kumar Nayak.
