Puri: Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Wednesday took possession of the Bhai Bou Dedhasura mutt, also known as Bauli Mutt, after the mutt management lost the litigation in the apex court.
The mutt is one of the ancient and heritage places where Sikh Guru Nanak had stayed on two occasions during his visit to Puri to worship Lord Jagannath.
The SJTA had filed an Orissa Estate Abolition (OEA) case in the court of Puri tehsildar claiming the authority of the mutt in 1990. The tehsildar settled the mutt and its endowment in favour of the temple.
The pontiff of the mutt then carried the matter to the Orissa High Court which upheld the verdict of the lower court.
The Mahant of the mutt then filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court which delivered its verdict in favour of the SJTA in 2015.
Today, the SJTA in the presence of police and magistrate sealed the two storied building with 20 rooms.
The mutt is located in Balisahi mouza of the city in an area of half an acre land with a small temple and a religiously famous deep well, known as Bhai Bou Dedhasura Kua.
